From sudden back pain to keeping up with the grandchildren
Context
This lady came to see me aged 53. She was working within the NHS and generally active day to day. The pain began suddenly after stretching to put air in her car tyres.
What was happening
She arrived in significant discomfort, describing her pain as intense and limiting, making it hard to stand upright or move freely. She recognised the pain, she’d experienced something similar around five years earlier, and was concerned it was returning.
The Approach
Time was taken to assess her movement and talk through daily habits and routines. Together, we identified a habit that was likely contributing to the problem. Treatment focused on settling the irritated area, restoring movement and unpicking that habit alongside practical advice to reduce the risk of recurrence.
The outcome
After her first appointment, she was standing more upright and moving with greater ease. Over three sessions, her pain settled fully and she was discharged feeling comfortable, mobile and confident in how to look after her back going forward.
Her words
“I was in severe pain and Kerry had me upright and moving more freely after my first consultation. She fitted me in at very short notice, which I was extremely grateful for. Brilliant service — pain free and mobile again very quickly. Enjoying life out and about!”
Why this matters
Sudden back pain can feel alarming, especially when it limits movement so quickly. With timely care, clear assessment and simple changes to everyday habits, many episodes can settle well, helping people return to normal life and reduce the chance of it becoming a recurring problem.
