From travel-limiting pain to long haul flights

Context
This lady came to see me aged 54, with a desk-based profession and an active lifestyle when her body allowed. She enjoyed gardening and dog walking, and had previously taken part in jogging, strength and conditioning, and yoga. She had hurt her back in the days before flying to England and was worried that travelling would make things worse.

What was happening
Her lower back had suddenly “gone” about a week before travel, and she was also experiencing pain near her right collarbone, triggered even by simple movements like yawning. With a long flight ahead and a history of inflammatory joint issues, she was understandably concerned about managing pain, movement and recovery while away from home.

The Approach
Time was taken to assess how her spine, pelvis and upper body were moving together, alongside discussion of daily habits and flare-up patterns. Treatment focused on easing irritation, restoring comfortable movement and helping her understand what was happening in her body, alongside practical advice she could use while travelling and once home.

The outcome
Her back settled enough for her to enjoy her time in England and travel back to Canada comfortably and safely. Just as importantly, she left with a clearer understanding of her body and the confidence to take action to stay well beyond the treatment room.

Her words
“Kerry helped me sort out my back so I could enjoy my trip and travel back to Canada safely. The care and information were top notch. If I was local, I would definitely be seeing Kerry regularly.”

Why this matters
Pain doesn’t pause for travel or life events. When care is flexible, informative and focused on real-world demands, it can help people stay mobile, confident and in control — even when circumstances aren’t ideal.
